Sorry for the silence over here, I have been extra busy at work and with family.....
but finally have checked in to leave an update.

In about a week, I will be putting up a "Gone Away on Holiday" sign over in the made4aid Etsy shop, as I will be away for about a month.

In September, the shop will be open again - and here's a sneak preview of some of the lovely new stock I'll be adding:

And... some more cushions, and some jewellery which I thought I'd photographed, but it seems not..... - I will try and get a few more photos up here in the next week or so.

made4aid for Japan

We had a good time at last weekend's fund-raising event for Japan earthquake relief.

We were allocated a little corridor area to set up, and it was really nice to spread out all the lovely items and meet some customers face to face - very different from selling online!

Most of our sales were small items, people were there primarily for the music - but we did sell quite a few little things (the quilt in the picture below being the exception) - and we had quite a few children coming and going and spending pocket money.

We raised £120 in total, and another £15 since then selling through a local textiles class.

The event as a whole raised £1319 - the money has gone to the Embassy of Japan in London who are working with the Red Cross.

Thanks to everyone who donated items and sent us good wishes!

Charity Concert
in aid of the victims of North Japan earthquake

The event will feature Ibuki Piano Trio, the shakuhachi player Richard Stagg as well as piano duos by Colin Stone and Mayumi Stone in a varied programme including works by Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Miyagi Michio and Miyoshi Akira.

The concert will start at 3.30pm and will be preceded by a tea and cake reception at 2.45pm, hosted by the Japanese tea expert Asako Steward; and Craft sale presented by Made4Aid. All proceeds will go to the Japanese relief effort.

Tickets are £10 (£5 for students, free for children under 10) and can be reserved by

Bags

I've been making bags for our fund-raiser for Japan, in May.

Usually I browse my stache of fabric, pick a piece I fancy working with, and then come up with a design. And adapt, modify, fiddle around with the design as I go.....

.....the result: almost every bag is unique and I have fun. But - they take far too long to make.

So, finally I sat and did some proper googling for bag patterns.

And I found this great design for a reversible bag:

with free downloads of the pattern for cutting out, and the instructions.

There are so many creative and generous people out there - and verypurpleperson is clearly one of them! Thank you!

I love how step 6 of the pattern is an instruction to pause for encouragement - to " look! you almost have a bag!"

So, I have selected my fabrics, and am planning to make a bag with these 2 fabrics:

and then maybe another with these:

Unless I decide these are too busy to put both together (but I know some people love any amount of William Morris) - in which case, I could combine each of these with some lovely glazed cotton I've been keeping, waiting for just the right use:

Aid for Japan

made4aid has been invited to participate in a fund-raising event, to raise money for relief work in Japan.

The event is being organised by EdmissionUK, who are experienced in organising cultural and musical events (and who have supported made4aid in the past). They are working with a group of Japanese musicians, for an event on May 15th, in Harrow North London.

So - we are working full pelt to make lots of things to take along and sell. All and any donations are welcome! if you'd like to send something, please leave a comment here or email us at: made4aid@yahoo.co.uk
Anything handmade is welcome (excluding consumibles or perishable items) - textiles, jewellery, ceramics, art or photos, handmade cards, sewing, bags, clothing, accessories ......

We have some great RECYCLED NOTE PADS - note blocks of coloured (blank) paper with covers from recycled packaging and gardening catalogues. More details here.

Sue's little ECO RUG is made by hand and entirely thrifted - that is - its made from left-over and recycled bits and pieces of clothing

Pat's little FRIENDSHIP BOOKS are made from recycled materials as much as possible - old maps, stamps, bits and pieces of paper, ribbon and beads.

children of war

In December/January made4aid has sent £460 / $718.11 to Médicins sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) for their Christmas Appeal - Children of War - an appeal to raise money for their work with children who have been injured or whose lives have been damaged by conflict around the world.

This is what the money could buy:

£16 would provide a basic medical kit containing three instruments necessary for making dressings in a sterile way.

£89 would pay for the supplies needed for a typical surgical operation by MSF, including surgical dressings, injections, catheters and drains, sutures, linen and sterilisation, and surgical instruments.

£100 would cover the cost of medical supplies in Amman for one child for maxillo-facial surgery so he or she could breathe, eat and speak with ease.

Thank you so much to those of you who have supported and encouraged made4aid to keep going, who have donated items or cash, or bought from us, or promoted on your blog - or sent a nice email!

NEWS! - relaunch imminent!

Hello!

Thanks so much to those of you still checking in here and being willing to support made4aid.

Well, much has happened in the last few months in my life.

My employment situation is now sorted and my job is permanent (as much as anything is permanent in this world and especially in the world of education in the UK). With less stress and anxiety about work I am ready to re-focus on made4aid, and looking forward to starting stitching, knitting, weaving and sewing again.

I have had a wonderful holiday in Kerala, India. Though the poverty there is less extreme than in other parts of India, I have come back inspired not only by the wonderful crafts, fabrics and colours of India but much more by the people. Especially by seeing how very little some people have and make do with. Kerala has such riches in natural resources, but such inequalities.

We met fishermen trawling for what seemed like pretty paltry quantities - small fish, prawns, if they were lucky, a king prawn or two - for which they said they would be paid 100 rupees per kilo, thats around £1.40, $2.00.

How much would a prawn curry or king prawn starter cost in the comfortable hotel we were staying in, just a few hundred yards away? Who was getting the profit? certainly not the fishermen.

We met a local weaver who made fantastic coir fibre door-mats, hand tufted and cut - they were very tough and substantial and so skillfully made.

He told us that he could expect to make 3 of these a day - 4 on a good day - and would be paid 150 rupees = £2 = $3 for each = a long way from the £12-15 minimum we'd have to pay for something similar.

We met and saw so many people who seemed to be getting by on very little. And these people are maybe more fortunate than some in India and elsewhere in the world.

I came away realising again how privileged my life is in ways I constantly take for granted.
I have the luxury of making things because I like to feel creative and enjoy the process, not because it is a way to earn a basic, hard-won living.

SO

- lets see if made4aid can continue to raise money for relief work and aid through the skills and efforts of artists and crafters who are able and willing to give.

STATUS:

made4aid has now provided evidence which has satisfied Paypal that we are bona fide.

We will continue selling but in a new way, through an Etsy shop.

The World Food Programme USA seem to be willing (enthusiastic even) to recognise made4aid as one of their fundraisers, which is necessary for rules on Etsy selling for charity - so I think this means we are good to go.

look out here for an announcement, when the made4aid Etsy shop is open for business.

Apologies again for the continuing no-news no-stuff situation.

However there is now news - new news!

Paypal have investigated made4aid and are satisfied about the status of the organization and the way the money is dealt with, so that the made4aid Paypal account is active again.

We wont be going back into action just yet I'm afraid, due to my lack of time and also because we are going to change the way we receive and sell donations.

I hope that by the Autumn we will have a made4aid Etsy shop.

So sorry for the "no news" situation over here, I've been very busy with work and trying to resolve some made4aid issues - so far without success.

I'm hoping to set up a made4aid Etsy shop.
However - Paypal have suspended our account, wanting further information about the organisation.

This seems entirely reasonable in principle.

Evidence has been provided showing that money raised is indeed going to charity as we claim; showing our tax status; showing our membership of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations.

Paypal are now requesting evidence that we have official status as fundraisers for the charities/organisations who are receiving made4aid money. This is not possible, as we don't have this status - and don't have to according to any UK / charity laws, so far as I am aware.

The process of responding to Paypal requests for information is not convenient, at the moment I am frustrated by constant fax "busy" reports....

so.....

I will keep you informed as and when anything is decided!

Handspun hand-dyed yarn - blue-faced leicester

As well as sending Rod to made4aid, Woo has also sent this beautiful handspun hand-dyed yarn.

This is 100% wool, hand-spun from blue-faced Leicester fleece, which is a special British breed of sheep with one of the softest fleeces. Its about an aran-weight or chunky, though I think it could work also with double-knit patterns, it might need slightly larger needles.

The yarn is dyed in lovely shades of blue, shading from pale sky-blue/turqoise through to slightly purplish/indigo shades. It is a lovely textured slubby yarn, which retains some of the curliness of the fleece and the texture and shades of colour are just lovely together - its beautifully soft.

This hank of yarn is 25 grammes in weight. Enough for a small project - gloves, arm warmers, hat... (plan ahead for next winter!) a little purse - or, this would look fabulous used in with less textured yarns to add contrast.

windows on blue - knit felt bag

This bag was made using yarns in various tints and shades of blue and mauve. The colours are mixed by combining different yarns, a bit like mixing paints really, to achieve the various shades and changes of colour.

Most of these yarns came from a local charity (thrift) shop.

The bag was knitted by hand and then felted in the washing machine - theres a post on how to do this here, which also has a link to the website where I got the pattern which I adapted for this bag.

This is a kind of quirky little bag, the intarsia knitting method has given the felt a lattice-sort of texture and 3-dimensionality - a bit of a life of its own.

There is one little pocket on the outside - knitted and felted as part of the bag

and suitable for a mobile phone, or tickets or... other little things...

The bag is finished by hand and lined with vintage fabric - turquoise seersucker with black linen facing and edging - with 2 internal pockets in a batik seersucker fabric.

The bag fastens closed with a vintage button:

The measurements are: about 10 inches/25.5cm across, measured flat, and 10.5 inches/27cm from the top edge to the base. The base is 4 inches/10.5cm by 9.5inches/24cm.

The handles are 27.5inches / 70 cm long, and have a black linen grip for extra comfort.

Alice on auction - Original Photographic print SOLD

Our auction item this week is donated by Susan Sanford, of ArtSpark Theatre.

Susan has for some time been delighting blogland with her photography series of Alice in Wonderland and through the Looking Glass. She's produced a calendar and just recently a book "Dreaming Alice"

and this is the photographic print she has donated to made4aid, which is entitled : Alice and The Red King Dreaming.

Handspun hand-dyed yarn - indigo SOLD

As well as sending Alfred to made4aid, Woo has also sent this beautiful handspun hand-dyed yarn.

This is 100% alpaca, beautifully silky soft and with a slight sheen to it. Alpaca is warmer than wool, but is also quite light. Its just gorgeous luxurious stuff and as a spinner as well as a knitter myself, I have to say this is beautifully spun.

The yarn is dyed in lovely shades of indigo-type blue, with just a little bluey-green here and there.

It is about a 4-ply weight, and this hank of yarn is 50grammes in weight.

Another miniature hand-made book made and given to made4aid by Pat.

These delightful and whimsical little miniatures are made from recycled materials as much as possible - old maps, stamps, bits and pieces of paper, ribbon and beads.
They are perfect for little gifts or keepsakes, with or without words which might be added - poems - lists - messages - photos.

Some of them might be a suitable guage to be used as doll's house "coffee table" books.

Vintage flower power messenger bag SOLD

This is a fairly generous sized messenger style bag, with an adjustable strap.

Designed around 2 vintage mats with a fab. flower power design;

the bag is made of strong but lightweight black linen, with one flower-mat on the front flap, and a second on the back of the bag.

The flower-mat on the back of the bag acts as a large pocket, with snap fasteners at the top edge.

Under the front flap, there is another large pocket which fastens with a vintage button.

And inside - more pockets! also made of brightly coloured vintage fabric.

There is a large internal pocket which fastens with a vintage button

and a smaller pocket, divided into 2 sections.

There is a wide shoulder strap, reinforced with multiple layers of fabric.

The strap is adjustable - long enough to wear as a cross-body bag, or can be shortened.
The strap attaches with a vintage black buckle,

and vintage buttons to adjust the strap.

This would be a good bag for travelling, as it easily folds quite compactly.

The bag measures approximately 18 inches/46cm across and 13 inches /33cm deep, with a gusset around 2 inches/5cm.

The strap is 1.5 inches/nearly 4cm wide, and can be adjusted from a maximum of 39 inches/99cm down to a minimum of 34.5 inches /87.5cm. Though, in fact, the buttons could easily be moved (or more buttons added) to give further choice of strap length.

vintage button bracelet SOLD

This sweet little button bracelet was made and donated by Amy.

It is made from vintage buttons, simply linked with stirling silver jump rings, and a silver clasp.

This is very pretty and dainty. The largest button is a little over 1 inch/1.5cm, and the smallest are less than half an inch/1 cm across.

The bracelet is adjustable

from approximately 7.5 inches/19cm (though could be made smaller by clasping between buttons) to a maximum of about 8.5 inches/21.5cm.

And, if you really want to bid on this but need it a little larger Amy could add another ring to extend this maximum length.

Amy has only recently started making things - and she's done a number of projects with buttons, using them for sewing and these bracelets.

This tote bag/ book bag/shopper was made from a durable cream cotton drill fabric and has, on both sides, a pretty, shabby chic patchwork panel made up of nine patches

in a mix of French and English vintage fabrics, as well as some modern designer fabrics.

It is lined with a vintage rose print fabric and has an internal pocket made from French-style ticking.

The bag, measured flat, is 37cm wide (14 1/2") and 39cm deep (151/2"). The straps are 79cm long (31").

It has been constructed with generous seam allowances and double stitching for strength and durability and will easily hold a three or four heavy books.

Vintage scented sachet

Vintage Scented Sachet (Perfect for scenting your lingerie draws)

This fab. item was handmade and donated by Amanda Howard of Maygreen Fairies blog and website.

The pillow is created using leftover fabric scraps and vintage lace.

It is decorated with a cheeky vintage image that has been printed onto cotton and then stitched to the pillow along with a caption "Bootylicious" also printed onto cotton.

The pillow is then accented with three pretty buttons and then filled with the lovely scent of Passion Flower known for its calming powers.

Approx dimensions 6"/15cm x 3.5"/9cm.

waffle scarf SOLD

Waffle scarf - handwoven on a table top loom.

This weaving pattern is called Waffle weave - and you can see why! Its very three-dimensional, and really does look and feel like waffles.

This is woven in mainly in lambswool - the grey, which is slightly light blue though I'm not sure my photos show that, is lambswool - with a contrasting turquoise boucle yarn.

Theres a different pattern on each side of the scarf.

Its a great weaving technique, really effective - and makes a lovely cosy scarf.

Its a slightly chunky scarf which is actually quite light, although it looks so solid. It will be toasty warm especially because of the waffles which will trap warmth.

Heathery felted bag - SOLD

This bag was made using yarns in various heathery shades of brown - gingery and chocolatey browns and pale coffee - greens and teal, purple and wine. The colours are mixed by combining different yarns, a bit like mixing paints really.

The bag was knitted by hand and then felted in the washing machine - theres a post on how to do this here, which also has a link to the website where I got the pattern which I adapted for this bag.

There are 2 little pockets on the outside, one on each end - knitted and felted as part of the bag

and suitable for a mobile phone, or tickets or... other little things...

The bag is finished by hand and lined with vintage fabric - a lovely tie-dyed piece of cotton which shades from pale to darker purple - and there is are 2 internal pockets in the lining.

The bag fastens closed with a vintage button:

The measurements are: about 13.5inches/34cm across, measured flat, and 11.5 inches/29cm from the top edge to the base. The base is 4 inches/10.5cm by11.5 inches/29cm.

The handles are 32.5inches / 82.5 cm long.

This book has purple patterned paper front and back, with little hearts cut out of paper with little tiny hearts spotted all over it....

The covers front and back are made of a mauve and mushroom classical looking print, very lightly varnished and the front is also decorated with the paper hearts, a strip of silk paper and a snippet of text from a 1902 edition of 'The Essayes of Michael Lord of Montaigne' translated by John Floria the third, Vol.2, bought in a charity shop for its beautiful paper and words.

The end papers - inside the front and back covers - are music scores, taken from Christmas cracker hats.

The pages are all blank and hand-stitched together, and the book has a black ribbon bookmark which is finished with little tiny bells.

This book measures approx. wide 1.5. inches/4cm and 2 inches/5cm tall.

Jasmine's scarfette - silk and wool nuno felt SOLD

This beautiful creation was given by Jasmine, to raise money for Haiti.

It is a Japanese felting technique which Jasmine describes as "laying down wool with silk and helping the wool fibres migrate through the silk so that the two bond and become one".
You can see some other examples over on Jasmine's blog.

Wool and silk are just lovely together, with the light warmth of the wool and the luxury of the silk - it looks and feels light as gossamer but both these fibres are pretty strong and they complement each other beautifully.

And the luxury is added to by the beads, hand-stitched.

What a lovely lovely thing this is. It lifts the heart and makes me think of Spring.

The scarfette measures approximately 30 inches/76cm long and 12 inches/30cm+ wide.

It comes in a specially designed and hand-made re-purposed gift box, painted and decorated with tissue paper and hand-drawn designs.

This laptop bag or pouch is made from 2 recycled wool sweaters which have been felted in the washing machine. Its ideal for protecting your laptop when it goes into a larger bag - or when its just lying around the place...

The front is striped and the back is plain black.

The opening is a simple pillow-case closing overlapping the top edge, and fastens with a vintage button and two snap-fasteners.

The pouch is lined with vintage 1950's or 60's fibreglass curtain fabric - this adds strength to the pouch, and it also gives a relatively dust-free interior and at least a bit of water-resistance, so should give the laptop some additional protection too.

The internal dimensions of this bag are approx. 13 inches/33cm by 10 inches/25.5cm.

My laptop measures 11 inches/28cm by 8.5inches /21.5cm and its about one inch/2.5cm thick, and it fits in here with some room to spare in all directions.

Spots 'n stripes bag SOLD

This bag was knitted using multiple threads of yarn - very light blue/grey, navy, purple and aqua - and some of this was a good haul of yarn from a charity shop which I'm just starting to work my way through.

The bag was knitted by hand and then felted in the washing machine - theres a post on how to do this here, which also has a link to the website where I got the pattern for this bag.

There are 2 little pockets on the outside, one on each end - knitted and felted as part of the bag, and suitable for a mobile phone, or tickets or... other little things...

The bag is finished by hand and lined with vintage fabric and there are 2 internal pockets in the lining.

The bag is finished and closes with a vintage button.

The measurements are: about 13.5inches/34cm across, measured flat, and 11 inches/28cm from the top edge to the base. The base is 10 inches/25.5cm by 4 inches/10cm.

The handles are 34inches / 86.5 cm long.

Felting is a very ancient textile technique - though far easier and quicker in a washing machine than by hand - and its very tough. This bag should last and last and cope with wear and tear, and its washable by hand, or sponge-able, or could go into a gentle, cool machine wash.

terracotta flowers bag SOLD

This is a bag to brighten up a dull day!

It was knitted using multiple threads of yarn combined together to mix different shades of peach and orange, gold and brown - and is decorated with little terracotta hand-crocheted flower medallions found at a car boot fair.

The bag was knitted by hand and then felted in the washing machine - theres a post on how to do this here.

There is a little pocket on the front, knitted and felted as part of the bag, and suitable for a mobile phone, or tickets or... other little things... and decorated with a flower.

The bag is lined with vintage Laura Ashley fabric, terracotta and green/mustard colours, and there are 2 internal pockets in the lining - one which fastens with a little vintage button,

and one which is divided into 2 handy smaller pockets.

The bag is finished and shuts with a tab and vintage button.

The measurements are: about 18.5inches/47cm across and 10+inches/26cm from the top edge to the base.

The handles are 31 inches /79 cm long.

Joyce-like SOLD

This bag should be called "Joyce", if anything, because it turned out rather in the style of some of her wonderful bags over at Bags4Darfur.

I saw some of these fabrics and remnants in the fabric boxes at my textiles class and knew they were destined to be made into a bag - and it emerged as a Joycean bag.

The front flap of the bag with its velvety cut out and appliqued flower design was a reclaimed part of a top...

and the grey fabric I found for the back looked a bit blank in comparison, so I had some fun decorating it...

Under the front flap theres a pocket

and there are little pockets for mobile phones, tickets etc.... on either side of the bag.

The strap fastens with vintage buttons, and is adjustable.

The lining also came from the fabrics and rag box at class, and was once part of a shirt - already well cut into and out of before I got to it. The original shirt pocket makes a little internal gathered pocket in the bag.

I don't know how Joyce manages to turn out her bags at such a rate (and hers have way more pockets and fancy/interesting bits than this one) - I respect her more than ever after making this one.

Girly bag SOLD

This is a 2nd bag made and sent in by Pat, who also makes the little tiny books.

and isn't this sweet?

Its a quilted tote bag made out of left-over remnants and bits and pieces of fabric.

Theres a little ribbon rose handstitched onto the front here - and there are rows of hand-stitched quilting along the edges of each strip of fabric, and around the handles too which are decorated with buttons.

Theres such a lot of time has gone into this little treasure

and inside its fully lined with plain soft white fabric, and all the seams are neatly turned in and hidden.

Although our main designated charity long term will continue to be Darfur, we are planning to give all proceeds for the next month or so for relief work in Haiti - via Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake Emergency Appeal.

"Cat and parasols" - Ehrman tapestry kit

On sale we have a brand new Ehrman tapestry kit - in its original packaging, I just took it out to check the dimensions and take photos.

Ehrman make really good quality tapestry kits with lovely wools and great designs - this is a nice donation and it would make up into a great cushion or picture.

Its a design called "Cat and parasols" - design by Susanna Lisle - and as well as the pink and yellow cat and parasols, there are red tulips in the backgound and a stripey/patterned border motif.

The kit comes with 100% cotton canvas, 10 stitches to the inch - and comes with needle, yarns and instructions - complete with everything you need.
The sewing can be done either in half-cross stitch or continental stitch.

The stitched area when finished is 14 inches / 35cm square.

So - for tapestry lovers, cat lovers, people whose hands like to be busy....

Leg Warmers - Or .... ??

Well, who would have thought that leg warmers would ever come back into fashion? But they have - i guess everything does? - and here we have some unique and eclectic handmade leg warmers for auction at just a time when a large proportion of the world is needing help to keep warm.

This is an odd pair. Mandy, who made and donated them, describes them as both odd and experimental.

They look great as very individual leg warmers - leg warmers of character! - and will be really toasty warm ...

... but Mandy suggests that they could also be used for something rather different.... stuffed with old socks and used as draft excluders? Christmas stockings? toilet roll or plastic bag holders?

There are some great colours and textures here in the knitting - and a range of yarns including wool, cotton, acrylic, mohair and chenille. They would definately be very cosy.

The measurements of the leg warmers, when laid flat , is approximately 24 inches/61cm long and 6 inches/15cm wide.

The various festivals celebrated in December are a good reminder for lots of us of what we have to be grateful for. Even in the light of difficulties over the last year and longer - a lot of blogs I read have been reflecting on the riches we have of love, family, comfort and relative security.

And of course a lot of blogs are looking forward at the moment, thinking about the New Year, turning points, hope, change - many of them talking about Light.

So - although my brain is only reluctantly emerging from holiday-mode - this is just the time, with just the right sentiments in the air, for getting back to work on diverting some of our resources to those who have none, as a very small contribution to the possibility of light and hope where it is so much needed.

After we have raised some money for the Haiti fund, we will resume giving for relief work in Darfur - the Save Darfur website has some of the latest news on Darfur - where discussions are going on now with the international community particularly in relation to Sudan's international debt, US sanctions, and elections coming up in April. Much of the money Sudan owes the world has been spent on weapons - but it may at least provide some kind of pressure to bring about change. There is room for hope and there are lots of opportunities for helping even in little ways.

recycled denim eco- bag SOLD

This auction is for a tote bag made from fabric remnants and recyclings by Yozgang, a London teenage textile artist who has a passion (and gift) for both textiles and recycling.

Y is 16 and says that she can't remember a time when she didn't make things, she grew up in a very creative home and says that is where her creativity comes from - but its clear it comes from her distinctive abilities and ideas too.

She has been making and modifying her own clothes for some years now; she has done quite a bit of patchwork, particularly with unusual and recycled fabrics; she knits and weaves; she has a particular passion for recycling - I don't think she ever throws anything away!

This bag is made from recycled denim and other blue fabrics, sewn first into a patchwork and then made into a bag.

The bag is fully lined and has a little internal denim pocket:

Vertical stripe bag - hand knit and felted SOLD

This bag was knitted using multiple threads of yarn combined together to mix different shades of blues and purples using up odds and ends, left-overs and thrifted yarns, and it was knitted sideways to achieve the vertical stripes.

After being knitted by hand the bag was then felted in the washing machine - theres a post on how to do this here, which also has a link to the website where I got the pattern for this bag.

There are 2 little pockets on the outside, one on each side - knitted and felted as part of the bag, and suitable for a mobile phone, or tickets or... other little things...

The bag is lined with a vintage silky floral fabric - it might be silk, it has that texture and slightly crunchy feel, but its hard to be sure and it could be rayon. There are 2 smallish internal pockets in the lining.

The bag is finished and closes with a tab and vintage button.

The measurements are: about 11.5inches/29.5cm across and 14 inches/37cm from the top edge to the base.
The handles are 25.5 inches / 65cm long.

Quick Thai Tote SOLD

This is a quick tote bag, made from a length of cloth bought at a car boot sale.

It is a type of cloth found in Thailand and other areas of southeastern Asia - its a gorgeous patterned weave in silver and purple.

The handle is made from strips of the same fabric

There is a little internal pocket made in the same fabric

and the bag fastens at the top with a vintage silvery-purple button.

I've just realised I forgot to take photos of the reverse/back of the bag - it is the same fabric, but without the fringes.

This is a gorgeously tawny gorgeously silky handknitted scarf.

It is knitted out of 100% silk yarn.

See my cat wanted to get into this photo too. He is also very silky.

The scarf is a wonderful glowing gingery cinnamon-honeycomb-gold sort of colour and deliciously soft and fuzzily silky.

The scarf measures approximately: 7 inches/18cm wide and 52inches/ 132cm long, excluding the fringes.

Little "friendship" books - No.4 "China" book SOLD

This is the 4th of the miniature hand-made books given to made4aid by Pat - you can see the first here, with a bit more info. about Pat.

These delightful and whimsical little miniatures are made from recycled materials as much as possible - old maps, stamps, bits and pieces of paper, ribbon and beads.
They are perfect for little gifts or keepsakes, with or without words which might be added - poems - lists - messages - photos.

Some of them might be a suitable guage to be used as doll's house "coffee table" books.

If you would like a custom-made book for yourself, a friend, or a doll's house please let us know - Pat has offered to make custom-designed books to your own requirements!

This book I've called "China " - for obvious reasons.

The covers front and back are covered with chinese paper and characters - maybe from a newspaper, or magazine or wrapping paper? The calligraphy is highly decorative and in different styles on the front

black and white newsprint on the back.

This is a little square book which measures approx. 2inches/5cm wide and tall.

The end papers - inside the front and back covers - are from plain checked paper, with a "Secret Journeys" label in the front.

The pages are all blank, and the book has a dark blue ribbon bookmark with a diamond shaped flower-patterned bead at the end.
