String bag with a twist - SOLD

This auction is for a hand-knitted string bag, with a twist - the twist being the lining. The bag is lined with vintage lemon/gold satin fabric, in a textured and two-tone leaf design.

I experimented with knitted string bags after seeing the pattern on Tut-tut's blog. Someone, possibly Penny?, suggested the great idea of making some with fabric linings. And so now, some year/s later.... the idea has resurfaced.

The string bag itself is knitted in black mercerised cotton, using two strands together - this is strong yarn and shouldn't stretch too much, although the knit pattern has some stretch in it, as string bags normally do. This is a really nice pattern, fun to knit - and you can find it here.

The lining is a great 1940's or 1950's fabric - reclaimed, I think I bought this as an ex-curtain. Its in lovely as-new condition and I think (hope) the colour really complements and contrasts with the black yarn, and the shiny satin pattern shows through quite nicely.

There is a little purse / separate pocket inside the bag, attached with some vintage ribbon and fastened with a little vintage button.

And the bag fastens shut at the top with a strong snap fastener / popper.

I really enjoyed making this - and I hope someone out there will like it enough to bid.

The dimensions of the bag are approximately: 14 inches/35.5cm across and 14 inches/35.5cm deep when empty. The bag will stretch to about 18 inches/46cm deep with heavy items in it. The handle is 28 inches/71cm long.
