beach-combers tassel SOLD

Theres not a lot to say about tassels - one of the things I like about them is that they are so purely gratuitous - unnecessary - entirely for fun and decoration.

I did a button and tassel making workshop a few years ago, and had a good time making tassels there, and then afterwards at home with my daughter and a couple of interested friends. Our house has since then had a number of tassels hanging from cupboard doorknobs, and elsewhere....

Then my lovely niece (one of them, they are all lovely) invited herself round recently to learn how to make them. We had fun, she made some gorgeous tassels - and I made this one for made4aid.

Its a sort of beachcombers tassel - made mostly in natural fibres, sisal, hemp and cotton - but with some gold thread shining in there and embellished with semi-hidden finds from the beach...

I've put shells and stones in here, some lovely glass sea green-blue beads, which I've been saving for something special

there are some bits of mother of pearl, one or two findings from my holiday in Jersey

and one or two more random things, such as one might find on a beach...

It is a bit unruly this tassel - its not ladylike and might almost be called dishevelled, but there are gestures towards order and neatness here and there...

and I did make a 2nd, more ladylike tassel which will appear here in due course.

This tassel is about 11 inches/28 cm tall, from top of the loop to the bottom; 8 inches/20 cm excluding the loop.

Ready to hang somewhere, gratuitously.

  1. Hmm. This is gorgeous. But I don't want to bid against Steve, as this would look really cool in his apartment.
Think I might wait for the next one ... :D
